Chowan University in Northeastern North Carolina has been offering excellent Christian education since its founding as a Baptist institute in 1848. Chowan is home to approximately 1,000 students from over 20 states and over 20 foreign countries. We make sure students from all walks of life are given an equal chance to succeed, striving to make good students GREAT because at Chowan we have faith in your future.
The Chowan Conviction
We are convinced that students represent more than letters on transcripts. While other schools dismiss applicants based on numeric scales, Chowan reviews each application individually, accounting for an applicant’s character, abilities, and potential. Our broad academic programs are designed to harness that potential in order to produce lifelong learners!
The Chowan Christian
We celebrate our Christian heritage at Chowan! While Chowan is historically Baptist, we value the diverse faith traditions that represent our campus. We are motivated by the Great Commission and grounded on the Great Commandment: to love God and love others. Christian faculty and staff, Bible studies in every residence hall, campus-wide worship services, mission experiences, a variety student-led ministries, and a dedicated pastoral ministry team encourage spiritual growth.
The Chowan Community
We are proud of our diverse Chowan community! Our small, family-like atmosphere makes Chowan a home away from home where students are nurtured, mentored, challenged, and loved by the faculty and staff. We know that investing in people makes a big difference for generations to come.
Indeed, all of us at Chowan University have faith in your future.
