Alcohol / Drug Studies Track

Chowan University offers a unique opportunity to complete the required education hours for North Carolina certification in alcohol/drug counseling. The Alcohol/Drug Studies track is similar to the concentration in counseling with additional courses in alcohol/drug studies. Upon graduation you will be qualified to sit for the state exam to become a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). A faculty member who is a NC Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) will provide the state required supervision hours for your practicum.

Alcohol/drug counselors are in demand in the fields of mental health, substance abuse treatment, criminal justice, schools, and human resources, just to name a few. You will gain experience working with substance abuse clients in a variety of settings. Once you have completed the basic courses, you will advance to:

  • Ethics in substance abuse counseling
  • HIV/AIDS prevention/treatment
  • Addiction & the Family
  • Small group seminars

Join us in this growing field and specialize in a needed area of service.
