Chowan University offers a place where
you will be challenged by faculty, engage with people from other backgrounds, and grow spiritually. Chowan University is also a place where you can grow and learn safely.
Chowan is concerned for the security and well-being of our students, staff and faculty. Chowan has a proactive plan of action for various emergency situations and safety procedures that come under regular review to ensure that they are always up-to-date and accurate.
"I'm really proud of what we've done proactively,"
says Chowan University Vice President of Student Affairs Randy Harrell. "We have a really strong record of health and safety."
Our public safety officers are uniformed and equipped to handle any number of occurrences on campus, large or small, should they ever occur. The University also works very closely with local law enforcement, as well as the local fire and rescue agencies.
"Our Public Safety Department functions 365 days a year and 24 hours a day,"
Harrell tells newcomers to campus. "Students, as well as faculty and staff, can call at anytime and an officer will be there to assist them."
Our officers inform students, staff and faculty about proper procedures, including vehicle registration and parking procedures
, with seminars and by distributing key chains with emergency numbers on them. If a situation were to occur, students can also submit a 'silent witness
' report to Public Safety anonymously. At a request, the officers can escort students around campus.
Resident Assistants for the Residence Halls review plans of action for situations of all sizes regularly as well. Resident Assistants, assigned to each floor of the halls, are also equipped with safety supplies.
Safety at Chowan University is always a top priority. It is one more way that we can ensure that Chowan has faith in your future
