Chowan University Welcomes Matt Follis as Student Activities Coordinator
Chowan University is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew “Matt” Follis as the new Student Activities Coordinator. In this role, Follis will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a wide range of student activities and events. These include cultural, recreational, social, and educational programs that contribute to the holistic development of Chowan University students.
With a diverse background and a passion for student engagement, Follis brings valuable experience to his new position. Originally from Hyde Park, NY, he has held various jobs that have helped shape his skills and expertise. Follis pursued his education at the University of Delaware from 2016 to 2020, and later at Wilmington University from 2020 to 2022.
During his time at the University of Delaware, Follis was a D1 collegiate cheerleader and part of the 2019 and 2020 UCA College National Championship winning teams. Although his collegiate athletic career has come to an end, Follis continues to prioritize his well-being by regularly engaging in workouts, finding them to be a source of relaxation.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Follis stated, “I’m most excited about having the opportunity to collaborate with everyone on campus to create great opportunities and experiences for our students to enjoy!” His dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive campus environment is evident in his previous experiences.
Dr. Mary Earp, Director of Life Skills at Chowan University, expressed her warm welcome to Follis, stating, “The Office of Life Skills welcomes Mr. Matt Follis as Chowan University’s Student Activities Coordinator. His focus will be to plan, organize, and execute various student activities and events including cultural, recreational, social, and educational programs. Matt will also be tasked with fostering and promoting a welcoming and inclusive campus environment that supports engagement and community building while enhancing the life skill framework throughout the student experience.”
Follis’s journey to Chowan University began when his girlfriend, Sam Falk, joined the university as an athletic trainer. Eager to contribute to the campus community, Follis wasted no time in submitting his application during their first week in Murfreesboro.
Chowan University is confident that Matthew Follis’s passion for student engagement and his diverse experiences will greatly contribute to the vibrant campus life and the overall student experience. His appointment as the Student Activities Coordinator reflects the university’s commitment to providing a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom.
