Chowan University Welcomes New Director of Public Safety Keyond Gorley
Chowan University is pleased to announce the appointment of Keyond Gorley as the new Director of Public Safety. In his new role, Gorley will be responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the Department of Public Safety, ensuring the enforcement of applicable University regulations and government safety requirements. His primary focus will be on promoting and ensuring the safety of students, faculty, staff personnel, and property.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Gorley most recently resided in Hampton Roads, Virginia. He brings a wealth of experience to Chowan University, having previously served as the Chief of Public Safety at Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority, a Sheriff Deputy at Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office, and the Uniform Public Safety Commander at Newark Housing Authority.
Gorley is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Advancement from Grand Canyon University. His educational background, combined with his extensive professional experience, makes him well-equipped to lead the Department of Public Safety at Chowan University.
When asked about his new position, Gorley expressed his excitement about the opportunity to keep students and staff safe. He also emphasized the importance of fostering relationships between Public Safety and the student population. Gorley believes that building strong connections will contribute to a safer and more secure campus environment.
Outside of work, Gorley is a devoted family man. He is married and has three children. On Sundays, he enjoys attending church, and in his free time, he finds relaxation in his mancave.
