Position Information

Chowan University, a graduate, co-educational, residential, church-related institution located on a beautiful campus in northeastern North Carolina in the historic town of Murfreesboro, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Human Resources.  This is a full-time, exempt position and is offered with a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. 

The Director has responsibility for oversight and “hands-on” administration for all facets of the human resources dynamic.  This includes recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, legal compliance, training and development, policy review and formulation, performance management, compensation and benefit design, (including administration of the University’s 403b Retirement Plan), employee recognition and rewards programming and strategic planning.  The position reports to the Vice President of Business Affairs.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in Human Resources leadership, management and administration and possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution (Master’s Degree preferred).  National certifications with the HRCI, (SPHR/PHR), and/or SHRM (SCP/CP) strongly preferred.  The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated appreciation for higher education and its service to the students and the broader campus community within a Christian environment.
