Director of University Relations and Communications

Position Information

Chowan University, a graduate, co-educational, residential, church- related institution located on a beautiful campus in northeastern North Carolina in the historic town of Murfreesboro, is accepting applications for the position of Director of University Relations and Communications.  This is a full-time, exempt position and is offered with a competitive salary and an excellent benefit package. 

The ideal candidate will be experienced in the effective use of multiple communication venues as well as news writing, copy writing, marketing, planning and organizing major events, public speaking, and working with mass media.  The successful candidate will work directly with the Vice President of Development and all senior leadership members to devise and execute strategic initiatives with responsibilities for outreach to key target audiences including community, parents, alumni, trustees, visitors, faculty and staff.

A bachelor’s degree is required, graduate degree preferred.  This is a very “hands-on” position with a minimum of three to five years of experience in public relations, communications and web page management/social media marketing.  Experience working with a diverse constituency, proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, ability to coordinate various projects, a demonstrated presentation ability and excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
