CU Volleyball Digs Past Trojans, 3-0
MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team swept Mount Olive in non-conference action on Tuesday evening for the annual Dig Pink match.

Brittany Tschida and Milica Vejnovic posted seven kills each. Kayla Gates notched six kills in the win.
Karisa Patterson dished out 22 assists and three service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Set: Chowan 25, Mount Olive 20
Both teams jockeyed for the lead in the opening set as the score was knotted up 12 times during the set.
Makayla Castro, Kayla Gates, and Courtney O'Keefe started the Hawks strong with kills.
After a Trojan error and a kill by Milica Vejnovic gave the Hawks a 12-10 advantage. The Trojans would tie things back at 12-all. Courtney O'Keefe pushed the Hawks back out in front with a kill.
Chowan held the slight advantage over UMO after a Brittany Tschida kill. The Trojans would counter to knot the match at 20 apiece.
The Hawks would take control of the set with the final five points to take the opening set. Makayla Castro and Courtney O'Keefe brought the crowd to their feet with a huge block to end the set, 25-20.
2nd Set: Chowan 25, Mount Olive 20
After swapping the lead to open the set, the Hawks used a 7-0 run to take command of the second set, 15-8. The run was aided by four Trojan miscues and two service aces by Karisa Patterson.
The Trojans cut the deficit to 18-15 after three attacking errors by the Hawks. Brittany Tschida flipped the momentum with a kills to lead 21-16.
The Trojans handed Chowan the final four points in the set on errors as the Hawks took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 set victory.
3rd Set: Chowan 25, Mount Olive 18
The momentum continued for the Hawks in the final set as Chowan opened the set with a 6-1 rally. Courtney O'Keefe and Kayla Gates notched a kill in the run but three Trojan miscues haunted the visitors.
UMO would fight back in the set to 9-7 but a service ace by Milica Vejnovic pushed the Hawks forward. Two kills by Brittany Tschida doubled up the Trojans at 14-7.
Five straight points by the Trojans trimmed their deficit to 14-12. Bailey Zavala dumped an attempt over the blockers for a kill followed by Courtney O'Keefe's kill pushed the Hawks back to an 18-14 lead.
After two points by UMO, the Hawks scored five in a row to lead 23-16. Milica Vejnovic tallied the only kill for the Hawks in the run.
Milica Vejnovic dropped a service ace in the middle of the Trojan defenders for the final point of the match.

Chowan returns to the Helms Center on Sunday, October 17 against CIAA Northern Division opponent Virginia Union for senior day. Karisa Patterson, Bailey Zavala, Makayla Castro, Brittany Tschida, and Sydney Bell will be honored.
